Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Inspector to join our team in the Hampton Roads Construction Program. As a Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for monitoring and inspecting roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects of routine to moderate complexity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure contractor compliance through review, interpretation, and enforcement of plans and contract documents
  • Monitor and inspect field work efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Prepare thorough and accurate project documentation
  • Apply state and federal safety, environmental, and EEO/DB guidelines and regulations related to transportation construction
  • Read, interpret, and analyze roadway, structure, and bridge plans, construction contracts, and other project management documents
  • Prepare reports, enter data, update, and maintain files
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Use engineering and testing equipment and computer software applications
Requirements
  • Experience with construction methods, materials, equipment, standards, specifications, and terminology
  • Experience applying state and federal safety, environmental, and EEO/DB guidelines and regulations related to transportation construction
  • Knowledge of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
  • Ability to apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustments to construction plans
  • Ability to work independently and oversee the work of others
  • Valid driver's license and safety shoes required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a broad range of road and bridge construction inspection activities with a DOT or a DOT consultant inspection firm
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and Site Manager or PlanGrid
  • Experience overseeing the work of others
