Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Inspector to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a Construction Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of our transportation infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and inspect roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects to ensure compliance with plans and contract documents.
  • Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, and standards to identify potential issues and ensure compliance.
  • Conduct regular site visits to inspect construction progress, identify potential problems, and provide guidance to contractors.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate project documentation, including inspection reports and records.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals and objectives are met.
Requirements
  • Experience with construction methods, materials, equipment, standards, and terminology.
  • Knowledge of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustments to construction plans.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze roadway, structure, and bridge plans, construction contracts, and other project management documents.
  • Ability to prepare reports, enter data, update, and maintain files.
  • Ability to work independently and oversee the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Valid driver's license and safety shoes required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a broad range of road and bridge construction inspection activities with a DOT or a DOT consultant inspection firm.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and Site Manager or PlanGrid.
  • Experience overseeing the work of others.
  • Possession of current certifications and completion of fall protection and confined space training.
