Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Proposals Writer to join our dynamic team. As a Proposals Writer, you will work closely with specialists and business development leaders to produce compelling, business-winning pitch documents for our highest-priority consignment opportunities across various sale categories.

The ideal candidate is an expert writer and communicator who can synthesize complex messages into clear and persuasive prose and navigate between qualitative and quantitative arguments. They are a quick learner, a critical thinker, and a natural leader who can build consensus and influence decision-makers.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, write, and manage the production of compelling, persuasive, and bespoke proposal documents and pitch materials to tight deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Proposal Designer and Market Analyst to establish project requirements/priorities and execute within deadlines.
  • Collaborate with Marketing Manager to craft the marketing narrative for the Proposal.
  • Manage multi-stage draft review process among multiple stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of proposal production and delivery, including scheduling, researching, outlining, writing, editing, proofreading, designing, and publishing the Proposal.
  • Manage and complete multiple projects efficiently under time-sensitive deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Keep abreast of Sotheby's and market developments, and help maintain, update, and improve team systems and resource libraries (core text, media quotes, images, etc).
  • Identify gaps in research and market information and opportunities for innovation.
  • Assist with proofreading of colleagues' documents.
  • Support other team members on urgent projects when necessary.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree, with a preference for English, History, or Art History majors.
  • Three years of relevant experience (e.g., journalism, publishing, business development).
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills; can confidently lead meetings and build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and follow-up skills.
  • Highly motivated, proactive.
  • Team-oriented, collaborative.
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign a plus.
  • An understanding of the auction industry and a strong interest in the art market are highly advantageous.
