Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Aerodynamics and Stores Integration Specialist to join our team at Northrop Grumman. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for defining the future of aircraft separation and stores integration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform aerodynamic characterization efforts utilizing analytical methods and tools.
  • Plan, coordinate, execute, and oversee wind tunnel tests, including two-body separation tests.
  • Conduct aircraft separation analyses and develop tools for conceptual design and aircraft grid creation.
  • Support conceptual and preliminary design efforts of aircraft and components, including the development of analysis products that calculate aerodynamic loads on separating bodies.
  • Progress infrastructure for databases, codes, and tools management, and drive and support wind tunnel, ground, and flight testing.
  • Develop test methods for experimental aerodynamic and performance characterization, and execute uncertainty analyses.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional and program-based teams, and represent work products in customer meetings and design reviews.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 12 years of relevant experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a STEM discipline and 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience partnering with a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop aircraft and subsystems in support of aerodynamic stores integration.
  • Previous experience with onsite support of wind tunnel testing and data acquisition systems.
  • Solid understanding of aerodynamic fundamentals, CFD techniques, and wind tunnel testing, including two-body separation tests.
  • Experience with aerodynamics tools and techniques, and familiarity with translating aerodynamics analyses into workable design solutions for flight vehicles.
  • Experience generating aerodynamic databases for 6DOF store separation simulations, including proximity effects.
  • Run 6DOF trajectory analysis, analyze acoustic data for open cavities from wind tunnel or CFD measurements, and analyze requirements and create run condition lists for stores integration testing and numerical analysis.
  • Understanding of the challenges of flow fields in subsonic, transonic, and supersonic regimes.
  • Familiarity with configuration aerodynamics tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 15+ years professional experience related to requirements development, technical practices, and lead activities in store separation and stores/aircraft compatibility.
  • Experience with DOD safety board process for store separation.
