Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Aerodynamics and Stores Separation Engineer to join our team at Northrop Grumman. As a key member of our Aeronautics Systems sector, you will be responsible for performing aerodynamic characterization efforts, planning and executing wind tunnel tests, and conducting aircraft separation analyses.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement aerodynamic tools and techniques to support aircraft and subsystem design
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute wind tunnel test plans
  • Analyze and interpret aerodynamic data to inform design decisions
  • Develop and maintain databases and codes to support aerodynamic analysis
  • Support the development of conceptual and preliminary design efforts for aircraft and components
  • Conduct uncertainty analyses to inform design decisions
  • Represent work products in customer meetings and design reviews
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of relevant experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a STEM discipline and 6 years of relevant experience
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance
  • Experience partnering with a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop aircraft and subsystems
  • Experience with aerodynamic tools and techniques, including wind tunnel testing and CFD analysis
  • Understanding of the challenges of flow fields in subsonic, transonic, and supersonic regimes
  • Familiarity with translating aerodynamic analyses into workable design solutions for flight vehicles
Preferred Qualifications
  • 6 years professional experience related to aerodynamics of store separation
  • Experience with DOD safety board processes for store separation
  • Familiarity with CAD tools such as NX and CPLM
  • Demonstrated record of working hard, strong communication skills, and being accountable
  • Experience with Matlab for data analysis and data reduction
  • Familiarity or experience with Fortran
  • Previous experience with onsite support of wind tunnel testing and data acquisition systems
  • Solid understanding of aerodynamic fundamentals, CFD techniques, and wind tunnel testing, including two body separation tests
