Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Aerodynamics and Stores Separation Engineer to join our team at Northrop Grumman. This role will involve performing aerodynamic characterization efforts, planning and coordinating wind tunnel tests, and conducting aircraft separation analyses.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute aerodynamic characterization plans, utilizing analytical methods and tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop aircraft and subsystems, ensuring aerodynamic stores integration.
  • Conduct wind tunnel tests, including two-body separation tests, and analyze data to inform design decisions.
  • Develop and manage tools for conceptual design and aircraft grid creation, and perform Captive Trajectory Support (CTS) analysis.
  • Support conceptual and preliminary design efforts of aircraft and components, ensuring aerodynamic loads are accurately calculated.
  • Produce analysis products that calculate aerodynamic loads on separating bodies, and progress infrastructure for databases, codes, and tools management.
  • Drive and support wind tunnel, ground, and flight testing, and develop test methods for experimental aerodynamic and performance characterization.
  • Execute uncertainty analyses, and collaborate closely with cross-functional and program-based teams.
  • Represent work products in customer meetings and design reviews, and collaborate with other disciplines, including Configuration, Aerodynamics, S&RE, CFD, Mechanisms, etc.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline, and 12 years of relevant experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a STEM discipline, and 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance, and Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Experience partnering with a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop aircraft and subsystems in support of aerodynamic stores integration.
  • Previous experience with onsite support of wind tunnel testing and data acquisition systems.
  • Solid understanding of aerodynamic fundamentals, CFD techniques, and wind tunnel testing, including two-body separation tests.
  • Experience with aerodynamics tools and techniques, and familiarity with translating aerodynamics analyses into workable design solutions for flight vehicles.
  • Experience generating aerodynamic databases for 6DOF store separation simulations, including proximity effects.
  • Run 6DOF trajectory analysis, and analyze acoustic data for open cavities from wind tunnel or CFD measurements.
  • Analyze requirements and create run condition lists for stores integration testing and numerical analysis.
  • Understanding of the challenges of flow fields in subsonic, transonic, and supersonic regimes.
  • Familiarity with configuration aerodynamics tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 15+ years professional experience related to requirements development, technical practices, and lead activities in store separation and stores/aircraft compatibility.
  • Experience with DOD safety board process for store separation.
  • Active DoD secret clearance.
