The Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a vital role in the dialysis treatment process, supporting clinical staff to deliver prescribed treatments and ensuring safe care for every patient.
Responsibilities- Participate in infection control and risk management activities
- Guide new patients through a comprehensive education plan
- Monitor patients during dialysis, documenting changes and informing the charge nurse of any concerns
- Set up and break down dialysis equipment
- Insert and remove patient access needles
- Calculate patient weight loss to reach dry weight
- Determine patient care priorities and organize workload accordingly
- Maintain professional relationships, observing patient privacy and rights
- Maintain and track inventory
- Perform laboratory work
