Position: Electrical Commissioning Engineer

Location: Ashburn, VA

In this role, you will implement onsite commissioning strategies, collect and analyze specifications, and carry out tasks in a multidisciplinary engineering commissioning capacity for large-scale facility projects.

The commissioning team follows a comprehensive quality management process that ensures validation and documentation of the systems in place.

The commissioning approach encompasses a broad array of procedures designed to confirm the integrity and performance of mission-critical support infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in daily commissioning activity meetings.
  • Oversee equipment pre-start-up and start-up protocols.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Methods of Procedures (MOPs).
  • Generate comprehensive commissioning documentation.
  • Prepare testing procedures and reports; maintain commissioning logs, equipment checklists, and other tracking tools.
  • Draft detailed reports that include recommendations for optimizing operations, functional checklists, and lists of deficiencies.
  • Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, and equipment submittals relevant to commissioning.
  • Conduct integrated system testing and load bank testing; compile testing procedure results.
  • Administer functional tests for various systems, including electrical distribution systems, UPS, and standby generators.
  • Prepare commissioning plans and adhere to the company’s quality control processes.
  • Lead and manage external resources as necessary; schedule and facilitate periodic commissioning meetings.
  • Interface with clients, contractors, equipment vendors, and owner agents as required.
  • Execute project assignments and collaborate with project contractors, vendors, and testing technicians.
  • Assist with field troubleshooting of commissioned equipment as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 4-10+ years of experience with Electrical Power Systems.
  • Experience in Data Center and Mission Critical environments is essential.
  • A Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is advantageous.
  • Military experience in Electrical/Mechanical roles is a significant plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in various computer systems and applications.
  • Experience in commissioning enterprise data centers, colocation facilities, and hyperscale companies.
  • Willingness to travel is necessary.
  • Experience in complex facilities or mission-critical projects is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with electrical equipment testing in critical facilities is required.
  • Experience conducting Level 1-5 Commissioning is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of systems design for various projects is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project is expected.
