Operations Manager Job Description

Chewy is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our fulfillment center team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our warehouse, including receiving, picking, packing, and shipping.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead inbound/outbound activities for the fulfillment center, including receiving, picking, packing, and shipping.
  • Provide a healthy and safe work environment for associates working on the outbound team.
  • Direct warehouse supervisory personnel to achieve prescribed objectives, including timely fulfillment of customer orders.
  • Ensure that all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are on target for the operation, including warehouse misses, on-time shipments, shipment defects, aged tasks, and production levels per hour.
  • Engage a team of Area Managers and Operations Leads to drive planning and forecasting.
  • Leverage the Area Managers by sourcing and furthering ideas, and rolling them into the creation of improvement plans for the functional area.
  • Mentor, train, and develop Area Managers for career progression and learning.
  • Develop and share standard processes across the shifts and network.
  • Build a positive team culture that encourages all employees in the FC to guide and motivate change within the facility, adapt to the dynamic business, and stay focused on the customer experience.
  • Drive continuous improvement to safety, quality, cost, and delivery while growing and expanding capabilities within the warehouse.
  • Use the site Warehouse Management System (WMS) to optimize detailed order fulfillment and provide operational insights to improve WMS effectiveness.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University or comparable experience.
  • 5+ years of management experience in fulfillment center/warehouse operations; prefer retail/e-commerce experience.
  • At least 4 years of management experience in Receiving, Inventory Control, and/or Order Fulfillment.
  • At least 4 years of shown experience of positively running large groups of hourly employees.
  • Experience with building or improving inventory management, order management, and warehouse management systems and processes.
  • Passion for working in a start-up environment with high levels of ambiguity and change.
  • Strong project management and continuous improvement skills.
  • Metrics-driven demeanor.
  • Customer service obsession, with a desire to go above and beyond to satisfy customer needs.
  • Effective communicator and leader for employees, direct reports, cross-functional teams, and executive leadership.
  • Shown ability to quickly adapt and drive the right results using data.
  • The highest levels of integrity and ethics.
  • Must be flexible to work weekends.
  • Position may require travel.
Bonus Requirements:
  • E-commerce experience.
  • Certification and/or experience in Lean Six Sigma and/or Green Belt certification.
