The role of the Temporary Classroom Assistant is available within our Hyde Park Satellite School Program. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering educational support to school-age children across various ability levels. The assistant will play a crucial role in addressing the daily needs of students while aiding the teacher in executing classroom activities.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM; totaling 32.5 hours per week. This is a full-time, temporary position.

Compensation: $17.85 per hour

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to the classroom schedule to ensure that each student's individual goals are met.
  • Support the teacher in facilitating both individual and group activities.
  • Maintain organization of student workstations and classroom areas.
  • Assist in creating educational materials as directed by the teacher.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development training.
  • Accompany students to therapy sessions to reinforce learning in the classroom.
  • Help organize and arrange the classroom to foster an effective learning environment.
  • Assist students with mobility, including escorting them to and from transportation.
  • Attend all special classes with students, such as physical education, art, and music.
  • Support students in dressing and undressing for outdoor activities.
  • Facilitate the safe transport and handling of students using adaptive equipment.
  • Provide necessary personal care, including toileting and changing as required.
  • Assist with meal preparation and feeding, promoting independence in these tasks.
  • Ensure cleanliness of feeding equipment and assist students in washing dishes.
  • Support the use of adaptive devices and equipment for students.
  • Comply with the agency's Code of Legal and Ethical Behavior, maintaining high standards of integrity and respect.
  • Follow all agency policies and procedures, prioritizing personal and student safety.
  • Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Prior experience in early childhood education or special education is preferred.
  • Ability to physically assist students, including lifting and maneuvering as necessary.
