Inclusive Education Specialist

Overview:
As an Inclusive Education Specialist, you will assess and deliver tailored educational services to children with special needs. You will supervise the activities of assigned support staff and maintain effective communication with families. Continuous professional development in relevant areas is essential, and attendance at evening meetings may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
Your primary duties encompass the following:
1. Professional Responsibilities
- Design and implement lesson plans that cater to the individualized needs of students, ensuring a safe and healthy classroom environment.
- Conduct screenings for new students and prepare comprehensive educational assessments.
- Complete annual evaluations for each child, including current performance levels and recommended goals for the upcoming academic year.
- Participate in case conferences to coordinate educational and therapeutic interventions.
- Maintain regular communication with parents regarding their child's progress through various channels.
- Develop and execute effective educational strategies tailored to the needs of assigned students.
- Perform evaluations of assigned children and address behavioral challenges using positive reinforcement techniques.
- Maintain accurate data for each IEP goal and ensure compliance with state regulations.
- Facilitate both small and large group activities on a daily basis.
- Prepare lesson plans and substitute kits in advance, updating as necessary.
- Submit quarterly progress reports for each child.
- Share insights regarding each child's development with relevant staff members.
- Regularly update IEP goals and strategies to meet educational objectives.
- Adapt materials to support language and speech development in the classroom.
- Collaborate with team members and other professionals to integrate diverse strategies into the educational framework.
2. Classroom Management
- Supervise and guide assigned teacher assistants and aides throughout the educational day.
- Ensure the health and safety of the classroom environment.
- Establish effective communication channels with parents of assigned children.
- Conduct weekly staff meetings to discuss classroom dynamics and strategies.
- Adhere to relevant regulations and organizational policies.
- Maintain clear records of allergies and medications for each student, ensuring all staff are informed.
- Evaluate the performance of teacher aides and assistants.
3. Professional Conduct
- Exhibit professionalism and cooperation in all educational settings.
- Follow program-specific policies and procedures diligently.
- Engage in program-wide activities and maintain a positive demeanor.
- Seek opportunities for professional growth related to the needs of children in your care.
- Support student teachers in their development as effective educators.
4. Professional Development
- Participate in mandatory training sessions and supervisory meetings.
- Demonstrate proficiency in administering standardized assessments to evaluate student abilities.
- Lead interdisciplinary team meetings with parents and therapists to discuss student progress and goals.
5. Compliance with Policies
- Adhere to the Code of Ethical Conduct and emergency preparedness protocols.
- Follow fire and safety prevention guidelines.
- Participate in required in-service education programs.
- Comply with attendance, punctuality, and professional conduct policies.
- Engage in self-development activities related to job performance.
- Follow infection control practices and regulatory requirements.
6. Additional Duties
- Understand the developmental needs of children across various age groups.
- Address safety and psychological needs appropriately.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding child and family information.
- Exhibit courteous and considerate behavior in all interactions.
- Foster positive relationships and teamwork among colleagues.
7. Cultural Competence
- Effectively communicate and interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Recognize and manage personal behaviors to create an inclusive environment.
- Deliver culturally responsive services to students and families.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree required for Special Educator I; Master's Degree required for Special Educator II.
Knowledge:
Expertise in Early Childhood Education and Special Education across various grade levels.
Experience:
New York State Certification in Special Education is mandatory. A minimum of one year of relevant experience in developing individualized education plans is preferred. Prior experience in special education is advantageous.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and transfer students as needed.
