Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Public Guardian Specialist to join our team at Shelby County. As a key member of our social services team, you will play a vital role in addressing the social and financial health care needs of our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist clients in addressing their social and financial health care needs
  • Provide general supervision of clients and make appropriate medical placements
  • Conduct health care needs assessments and develop plans to meet those needs
  • Investigate and negotiate clients' bills and maintain medication inventory
  • Qualify clients for Medicaid spend down and maintain departmental reports
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for the Public Conservator Program
  • Participate in regular Coordinated Community Response meetings and perform other related duties as required
Requirements
  • Three years of experience in a social services environment, statistical work, or related field
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or two years of experience in a social services environment with one year of college study
  • Proof of education, training, and/or experience required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of administrative functions, programs, policies, and procedures
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of organizational, financial, and personnel management techniques
  • Ability to plan, organize, and maintain an even flow of work
  • Ability to provide effective customer services in a fast-paced environment
Special Requirements

Must pass background check, including TBI/FBI Criminal check, Tennessee Abuse Registry, and other required checks
