Position Overview

The Public Guardian Specialist plays a vital role in supporting clients by addressing their social and financial healthcare requirements. This position involves overseeing clients' well-being, facilitating appropriate medical placements, and conducting comprehensive healthcare assessments.

Compensation: Pay Grade: 45
Salary is commensurate with experience and educational background.

Essential Qualifications

100% -

1. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a social services setting, statistical analysis, or a related field; AND

2. A high school diploma or equivalent GED, OR

3. Two (2) years of experience in a social services context, statistical analysis, or a related field, along with one (1) year of college education (30 semester hours or 36 quarter hours) from an accredited institution.

4. Proof of education, training, and/or experience is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

1. Engages with caregivers and creditors, drafting and signing necessary correspondence.

2. Investigates and negotiates client billing matters.

3. Monitors personal and real property, completing thorough property inventories.

4. Maintains an accurate inventory of medications.

5. Assesses client eligibility for Medicaid spend down.

6. Keeps departmental reports current and accurate.

7. Participates in care conferences.

8. Conducts quarterly evaluations.

9. Recruits, trains, and oversees volunteers within the Public Conservator Program.

10. Engages in regular Coordinated Community Response meetings.

11. Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

1. Familiarity with administrative functions, programs, policies, and procedures.

2. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

3. Understanding of organizational and financial management techniques, including budgeting, accounting, and/or auditing.

4. Knowledge of Shelby County programs, policies, and services, as well as related federal, state, and local programs.

5. Ability to effectively plan, organize, and maintain a consistent workflow.

6. Capacity to deliver exceptional customer service in a dynamic environment.

Special Requirements

Candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes: TBI/FBI Criminal check, Tennessee Abuse Registry, Tennessee Felony Offender Registry, Adult Offender Registry, and the National and Tennessee Sexual Offender Registry.
