Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Public Guardian Specialist to join our team at Shelby County. As a Public Guardian Specialist, you will play a critical role in addressing the social and financial health care needs of our clients, providing general supervision, making appropriate medical placements, and conducting health care needs assessments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Confer with caregivers and creditors to write and sign correspondence.
  • Investigate and negotiate clients' bills.
  • Monitor personal and real property, and complete property inventories.
  • Maintain medication inventories.
  • Qualify clients for Medicaid spend down.
  • Maintain and update departmental reports.
  • Attend care conferences.
  • Conduct quarterly assessments.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for the Public Conservator Program.
  • Participate in regular Coordinated Community Response meetings.
Requirements
  • Three years of experience in a social services environment, statistical work, or related field.
  • High school diploma or GED, or two years of experience in a social services environment, statistical work, or related field, and one year of college study (30 semester hours or 36 quarters) from an accredited college or university.
  • Proof of education, training, and/or experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of administrative functions, programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of organizational, financial, purchasing, and personnel management techniques.
  • Knowledge of Shelby County program and policies and services, and related federal, state, and local programs.
Special Requirements

Must pass a background check, including a TBI/FBI Criminal check, Tennessee Abuse Registry, Tennessee Felony Offender Registry, Adult Offender Registry, and the National and Tennessee Sexual Offender Registry.
