Job Overview

The Engineering Technician III is responsible for executing tasks that are not entirely standardized or prescribed. This role involves selecting or modifying standard procedures or equipment based on applicable precedents. The technician receives initial guidance, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisors or engineers as necessary, and operates independently on recurring tasks. Work is evaluated for technical adequacy and compliance with instructions.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position encompasses a variety of essential functions, including but not limited to:

  • Component Construction: Assembling components, subunits, or basic models, and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions as needed.
  • Device Packaging: Following specific layouts and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
  • Testing and Experimentation: Conducting tests or experiments that may require minor adjustments in setups or procedures, along with subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment, and documenting test results.
  • Data Compilation: Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, and lab reports, processing this data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, and determining methods for data presentation.
  • Design Assistance: Aiding in design modifications by gathering data related to design specifications and materials pertinent to specific equipment or component parts, developing insights regarding previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment to identify inconsistencies or gaps in data.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Ability to provide semi-professional technical support for engineers in areas such as research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement.
  • Practical knowledge of science or engineering; some positions may necessitate knowledge of mathematics or computer science.
  • Experience in preparing design drawings and assisting with the design, evaluation, and/or modification of machinery and equipment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of related hardware and software relevant to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment.
  • 3-5 years of directly related experience supporting information systems operations.

Security Clearance: This position requires and must maintain a Secret US DoD security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate's degree in a related technical field is preferred.

Communication Skills

Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing, is essential. The ability to interface effectively with all levels of technical and management personnel is also required.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this position is $30.39 per hour. Full-time employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, vacation and sick leave, paid holidays, and a 401(k) retirement plan with company matching.
