Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Import Export Specialist to join our team at SSi People. As an Import Export Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth import and export of goods across borders, while maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations and laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process import/export trade compliance clearance of cross-border shipments in Global Trade Management systems.
  • Provide import clearance instructions to brokers by validating and preparing documentation subject to Customs, FDA, and other government agencies.
  • Act as the point of contact for shipment processing with different business partners and respond to internal and external shipment inquiries.
  • Maintain a repository for imports and exports, recording retention and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining standard operating procedures for import/export operations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 13 years of experience in trade compliance, with a strong understanding of Customs requirements and regulations.
  • Knowledge of record retention best practices for customs documentation, including storage and organization of electronic records.
  • Experience with import/export operations, including HTS classification principles.
  • Availability to work in the US ET time zone, with flexibility to accommodate early calls with European locations.
  • Experience working with import/export operations in the US and Europe is a plus, particularly in the UK and CH.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Excel databases and ERP systems, such as Oracle or SAP.
  • Strong analytical and data management skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a focus on meeting deadlines and ensuring compliance.
  • Previous experience working in a regulated industry, such as food, pharma, or medical devices, is a plus.
  • General understanding of customs valuation, including freight, assists, and other incremental costs.
