About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our team at Trinity Health Ann Arbor. As a key member of our Perioperative Services department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scrubbing for Surgical Cases:
    • Adhere to established sterile procedures to maintain a safe and efficient operating environment.
    • Don and maintain appropriate sterile attire to prevent contamination.
  • Preparing for Operative Procedures:
    • Set up instrument tables with required drapes, instruments, and sutures according to surgeon preferences.
    • Maintain a sterile field throughout the procedure to prevent contamination.
  • Assisting the Surgical Team:
    • Pass instruments, sponges, sutures, and other sterile supplies to the surgical team as needed.
    • Hold retractors and anticipate/respond to surgeon needs during surgery.
  • Assisting with Circulating Duties:
    • Open supplies, assist with patient positioning, obtain equipment, bag sponges, and prepare the operative site.
  • Handling Surgical Specimens:
    • Pass specimens to the circulating nurse with proper identification.
  • Counting Instruments and Supplies:
    • Perform initial, final, and end-of-shift counts of sponges, needles, and instruments used during surgery.
  • Post-Operative Care:
    • Assist with dressing the operative site following the procedure.
  • Operating and Caring for Equipment:
    • Operate surgical equipment and instruments according to department policy and manufacturer recommendations.
    • Stay updated on developments in surgical equipment and techniques through in-service programs.
  • Quality Improvement:
    • Participate in quality improvement processes and contribute to problem-solving and process improvement initiatives.
  • Safety and Confidentiality:
    • Ensure personal safety and that of coworkers by following safety protocols.
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient, physician, and hospital information.
