Job Title: VCUarts Summer Pre-College Counselor and Senior Counselor

Job Summary:
We are seeking highly responsible and motivated counselors and senior counselors to assist with and provide leadership during the Summer Pre-College Program for High School Students at the Virginia Commonwealth University, School of the Arts (VCUarts).

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide a superior quality experience for each high school participant
• Assist with daily activities, including escorting students to and from campus housing, meals, morning and afternoon classes, and planning and running evening modules and social activities
• Participate in field trips and other assigned group activities on weekends
• Senior Counselors will help lead counseling team training sessions, supervise, coach and motivate a team of counselors, and resolve student and counselor concerns

Requirements:

• Outstanding communication skills
• A passion for working with students
• Positive, flexible, hard-working and engaging
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including a high-level of desire, patience, and sensitivity to meet the needs of the students at all times
• A clear understanding of University and Residence Life policies, as well as the ability to monitor behavior and convey policies to the students
• Ability to clearly and assertively address minor infractions and misunderstandings
• Ability to provide leadership and to closely monitor the students throughout the program to ensure their safety
• Strong organization and communication skills
• A valid driver's license and transportation for Senior Counselors

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who are:
(1) VCU School of the Arts graduate students, rising junior or senior undergraduate students and alumni
(2) Those who have previous experience as a residence hall assistant
(3) Experience working at summer camps for high school students
(4) Teachers
