If you seek a meaningful career filled with purpose, this opportunity is for you.

The Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) engages in intricate psychiatric care under the supervision of a designated psychiatrist.

Responsibilities include evaluating, planning, and delivering comprehensive psychiatric care either independently or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. You will direct psychiatric interventions, monitor trends, and propose enhancements.

Prescribing medications, including antipsychotics, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, and making referrals are all part of your role, in alignment with your professional scope.

Additional responsibilities include overseeing the work of others as assigned by the supervisor.

Operate under the clinical and administrative guidance of the Medical Director or other delegating physician, exercising considerable initiative and independent judgment.

You may also collaborate with physicians and psychiatrists through telemedicine.

Key Responsibilities:

Regular attendance is expected, with potential requirements for specific shifts, rotating schedules, or overtime as per agency policies, along with other assigned duties.

You may be required to participate in an on-call rotation to meet the facility's operational needs.

Function within your licensure to foster a therapeutic and secure psychiatric environment. Provide both acute and long-term psychiatric care, including daily assessments of mental health status as necessary.

The assessment process encompasses diagnosis, treatment, and the development of care plans, with thorough documentation of acute psychiatric issues.

Prescribe medications, including antipsychotics, obtain necessary consents, order laboratory tests, consult, and interpret results.

Refer any care decisions outside your licensure and expertise to the treatment team or a Medical Doctor (MD).

Deliver psychiatric care through face-to-face interactions, which include initial and ongoing assessments for individuals with identified psychiatric diagnoses; review treatment plans and adjust psychiatric interventions as needed.

Write prescriptions and conduct medication reviews within your professional qualifications and training. Report significant trends or issues to your supervisor and provide actionable suggestions based on your expertise.

Deliver comprehensive psychiatric care, including conducting at least quarterly psychiatric clinics and rounds. Perform periodic evaluations of hospitalized patients when on-call to assess any reported changes in their condition.

Provide psychiatric diagnoses and review positive behavior support plans (PBSP) and/or psychiatric support plans (PSP), including an assessment of all identified risks (e.g., choking, falls, seizures, aggression) and health status, ensuring that necessary supports (OT, PT, Nursing, etc.) are identified and addressed.

Develop precise and timely documentation, including annual summaries, usage of chemical restraints, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

Additional duties may include actively participating in or supporting the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may require alternate shift patterns or locations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Familiarity with psychiatric nursing methods and procedures, including relevant laws and regulations governing public health and hospital operations.

Understanding of medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment principles.

Knowledge of developing, implementing, and documenting individualized care and treatment plans.

Proficiency in interpreting laboratory analyses and diagnostic imaging.

Competence in patient care and the use of medical diagnostic and treatment tools.

Ability to examine, diagnose, and treat both physical and mental health disorders.
Capability to supervise the work of others providing medical care.
Ability to interact appropriately with individuals with developmental disabilities.
Skill in articulating ideas clearly in both written and verbal communication.
Ability to maintain accurate medical records.
