Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or have behavioral problems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess, plan, and provide independent or collaborative psychiatric patient care under the clinical supervision of an assigned psychiatrist.
  • Direct psychiatric activities/treatment, monitor trends and activities, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Prescribe medications, including antipsychotics, order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testing, consult, and refer as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor, including planning, assigning, and/or supervising the work of others.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures in the field of psychiatric/nursing, including laws and ordinances governing public health and hospital operations.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Ability to examine, diagnose, and treat physical and mental disorders.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others who provide medical care to patients.
  • Ability to appropriately interact with individuals with developmental disabilities.
