Role Overview

The Employment Support Specialist is responsible for guiding individuals with developmental challenges in both individual and group settings across various locations. This role focuses on mentoring participants in acquiring new job skills and responsibilities, ensuring they achieve their fullest potential in competitive and inclusive work environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the execution of assigned tasks; mentor participants to help them learn job functions, maintain focus on appropriate workplace behaviors, and maximize their productivity and job stability.
  • Act as a bridge between the participant and the employer, facilitating successful workplace integration. Evaluate ongoing support needs that may hinder employment opportunities.
  • Assist participants in fostering positive relationships with colleagues, clients, and the public.
  • Utilize hands-on training, positive reinforcement strategies, and other methods to help participants effectively learn and perform their job responsibilities.
  • Advocate for participants' employment rights and recommend alternative work strategies or reasonable accommodations as necessary. Identify and communicate potential accommodation needs to supervisors.
  • Maintain open lines of communication among participants, program staff, counselors, and other essential stakeholders.
  • Prepare regular written reports on progress, case notes, and other documentation required for each participant, including productivity logs and billing information. Some roles may involve maintaining inventory records and traveling to various sites for coaching activities.
  • Ensure adherence to workplace regulations and safety protocols. Report any compliance issues or unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel. Enforce compliance with all safety-related work rules when supervising participants.
  • This position may require local travel to multiple coaching locations; a valid driver's license and state-mandated auto insurance are essential. Driving records must meet the standards set by our insurance provider.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in job coaching or a related field is preferred.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; some college education is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the work-related needs of individuals with disabilities; knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in another language and understanding of diverse cultures as required by the program or community.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated patience and professionalism when interacting with participants and employers.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility in work hours and willingness to work overtime when necessary.
