Position Title: Employment Support Specialist

Program: Supported Employment

Position Overview:

Under the guidance of the Program Manager, the Employment Support Specialist will implement the Supported Employment Program by assisting adults with mental health challenges in securing and maintaining employment aligned with their career goals and recovery journey. The primary responsibility of the Employment Support Specialist will be job development for program participants, which includes identifying and cultivating job leads that meet the needs of clients and establishing employer partnerships for situational assessments and work adjustments. Additionally, the Employment Support Specialist will educate and support clients in job searching, resume creation, application mastery, interview preparation, and maintaining employment, all while employing a trauma-informed approach. Services will be tailored to each individual's support needs, and the Employment Support Specialist will uphold and promote the program's philosophy in all tasks performed.

Hours and Compensation:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position requiring 40 hours per week. The role includes a comprehensive benefits package featuring health, dental, vision, life insurance, a 403b retirement plan (with up to a 5% employer match), paid vacation/holiday time, paid sick leave, and various employee perks. The anticipated salary range is $22.00-$24.00 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Identify and cultivate job leads that align with the interests and abilities of job seekers through various marketing strategies, including outreach, responding to job postings, and building relationships with local businesses.
  2. Meet regularly with assigned job seekers to clarify employment goals, identify potential accommodations, and provide education and support in job searching, resume writing, application processes, interview preparation, and employment retention.
  3. Facilitate job-seeker workshops that focus on skill development in areas such as resume building, interview techniques, and conflict resolution in the workplace.
  4. Maintain accurate documentation of services provided through case notes, intake forms, employment preparation documents, monthly job development reports, and job placement and retention records.
  5. Promote and uphold trauma-informed practices in all services and activities, ensuring clear, empathetic, and person-centered communication.
  6. Act as a liaison by consulting and collaborating with the Program Manager, County Behavioral Health Department, and other treatment agencies to meet client and program objectives.
  7. Participate in regular staff meetings, client intake meetings, and complete required training hours.
  8. Provide job coaching services to clients as needed.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

Work Environment:

This role involves moderate physical activity and frequent travel, which may include lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs. The position may involve moderate risks requiring safety precautions and the potential for exposure to intense situations.

Qualifications:

A BA/BS degree with 6 months of full-time experience in job development or mental health, OR an AA/AS degree with 2 years of full-time experience in job development or mental health, OR a High School diploma with 4 years of full-time experience in job development or mental health. Understanding of the needs of individuals with psychiatric disabilities is essential. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style, and effective oral/written communication abilities are required. Candidates should possess well-defined organizational and time management skills, the ability to work independently and flexibly, and the capacity to handle intense situations with good judgment and decision-making skills. Compliance with safety rules and practices is mandatory to ensure maximum safety for oneself, colleagues, clients, and others involved in TMHA business. Employment conditions include maintaining good physical and mental health, being at least 18 years of age, possessing a valid CA Driver's License, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and a clean DMV driving record. Attendance is crucial for face-to-face interactions with clients and coworkers. Candidates must demonstrate a professional and respectful attitude in the workplace and be willing to work under supervisory guidance. Compliance with TB assessments and criminal record clearance through fingerprinting is required. Successful completion of First Aid and CPR training is also necessary.
