Position Overview:

The Laboratory Technical Specialist serves as the clinical and technical authority in designated laboratory disciplines. Responsibilities encompass the assessment of Quality Control (QC) and Proficiency Testing (PT), implementing corrective measures as necessary, and compiling QC and PT data into reports or visual representations for review by the Medical Director. This role also includes various Quality Assurance (QA) responsibilities, such as the evaluation of records related to patient testing, instrument upkeep, and environmental conditions, ensuring compliance with established standards. The Specialist is expected to stay informed about technological advancements and accreditation standards pertinent to their laboratory areas. A critical aspect of this position involves ensuring readiness for accreditation; participating in surveys and inspections conducted by regulatory bodies. The Specialist provides expert advice and support for technical and clinical challenges, ensuring the reliability and accuracy of test outcomes. They also contribute to the development and implementation of new policies, procedures, and protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and oversee validation and verification strategies for new methodologies and equipment.
  • Create educational materials and competency evaluations for new techniques and instruments.
  • Conduct training sessions and competency assessments for team members.
  • Perform all responsibilities of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist across various laboratory sectors.
  • Adhere to all relevant local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures to safeguard patient confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of testing accuracy and safety.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or a related field from an accredited institution, fulfilling the coursework requirements for a Clinical Lab Scientist Generalist license as per regulatory standards.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

  • Licensed Clinical Lab Scientist (CLSL).

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Proven expertise in routine specimen collection, preparation, testing methodologies, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in one or more clinical specialty areas, such as Chemistry, Hematology, or Transfusion Services.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in regulatory compliance and accreditation standards.
  • Strong skills in QC/QA, equipment troubleshooting, training, and technical problem-solving.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to perform duties with precision and reliability, exercising sound judgment.
  • Ability to interact compassionately and effectively with a diverse patient population.
  • Competence in managing workflow amidst varying demands and unexpected challenges.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable regulations and policies to ensure patient safety and privacy.
