Job Overview

The Estimator at Kimball Construction Co plays a crucial role in the financial planning of construction projects. This position focuses on the preparation of detailed budgets, estimates, and pre-bid documentation, emphasizing take-off tasks and change orders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct precise and comprehensive quantity takeoffs in accordance with company standards for all project documentation levels.
  • Formulate clear and concise assumptions and clarifications regarding project estimates.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of organization.
  • Engage in pre-bid meetings and site evaluations as necessary.
  • Analyze project plans and generate detailed cost estimates.
  • Gather current pricing data from various sources to inform estimates and develop accurate unit costs.
  • Review and adjust estimate pricing to align with market conditions and project specifics.
  • Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Explore and assess value management options.
  • Perform technical reviews of plans when required.
  • Identify problems and propose effective solutions.
  • Enhance knowledge of construction materials and systems to provide clients with viable alternatives.
  • Ensure accuracy in the historical database.
  • Assist in procurement or buyout tasks as needed.
  • Support project management in analyzing subcontractor pricing when necessary.
  • Become proficient in estimating software and other relevant tools.
  • Facilitate communication among clients, staff, and contractors.
  • Present findings and updates to client teams.
  • Foster strong relationships with all stakeholders to uphold company values and exceed client expectations.
  • Adhere to project deadlines.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in preconstruction or operations within commercial projects.
  • Familiarity with civil/site construction, structural systems, and associated costs.
  • In-depth knowledge of structural concrete and shoring practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of construction details across various trades.
  • Strong organizational, management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly acquire new skills and knowledge.
  • Resourceful in problem-solving and adapting to changing situations.
  • Capability to estimate all project aspects and consolidate them into a comprehensive budget.
  • Ability to view projects from an owner's perspective.
  • Experience in team organization and leadership.
  • Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.

Work Environment

The majority of work will be conducted in an office environment, with occasional meetings at external locations.
