POSITION SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant specializing in Wound Care operates under the guidance of the Practice Manager and Nurse Practitioner. This role involves anticipating patient needs and symptoms, delivering care as directed by the physician or NP, and preparing patients for wound care procedures in various settings, including home visits and skilled nursing facilities. Responsibilities include assisting during treatments, coordinating necessary tests and follow-up care, and documenting treatment in the electronic medical record. The position also emphasizes patient and family education and requires proficiency in serving diverse patient populations, including adults and seniors. This is a travel-intensive role, with the majority of patient interactions occurring outside of the clinic environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent; completion of a Certified Medical Assistant program is mandatory.

Experience: A minimum of two years of experience as a medical assistant in a clinical setting, preferably with a focus on wound care.

Skills: Current BCLS certification is required. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential. The ability to work efficiently while ensuring patient comfort and satisfaction is crucial. Proficiency in verbal and written English communication is necessary, along with basic office skills and familiarity with office equipment, including computers and software (e.g., Microsoft Office). Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, coupled with a positive attitude, are required. Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The role involves frequent use of hands and arms for patient assistance and object handling. Candidates must be able to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch as needed. The ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds is required, with occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds. Extended periods of driving may be necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Wound Care Duties:

  • Measure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, height, and weight.
  • Assist in positioning patients for treatment and prepare the area for procedures.
  • Support dressing changes and wound debridement, coordinating with the provider for necessary tools and supplies.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and disposal of used supplies.

Travel and Vehicle Management:

  • Operate the company vehicle in compliance with traffic laws and company policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and manage necessary medical supplies for patient visits.
  • Communicate effectively with the wound care team regarding schedules and logistics.

Supply Management:

  • Document and manage wound care supplies based on patient needs.
  • Coordinate with the Practice Manager and Provider to ensure adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Prepare and replenish wound care kits in anticipation of patient visits.

Care Coordination:

  • Collaborate with the Practice Manager to optimize daily schedules for wound visits.
  • Confirm patient appointments and estimated arrival times prior to visits.
  • Facilitate communication with patients' primary care providers and specialists as needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Compensation: $23.00 per hour
