Job Title: Health and Safety Specialist

Join the City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as a Health and Safety Specialist in the Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC). This role is a critical part of ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, customers, and the environment.

About the Role:

The Health and Safety Specialist will provide guidance and technical support on health and safety topics and issues to BEDC project management staff. This includes reviewing, preparing, and revising contract specifications, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and guidance documents related to health and safety objectives and goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide health and safety guidance and technical support to BEDC project management staff
  • Review and revise contract specifications, SOPs, and guidance documents related to health and safety
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local EHS laws and regulations
  • Manage the Bureau's health and safety programs, including Confined Space Entry, Respiratory Protection, Fall Protection, and Control of Hazardous Energy
  • Provide training to Bureau staff on health and safety-related policies and programs
Requirements:

To be considered for this role, you must have a four-year high school diploma or its equivalent and five years of full-time satisfactory experience managing and/or inspecting one or more construction projects with a total cost of at least $300,000 for each of the five years of the required experience.

Alternatively, you may have one year of experience as described above and a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, landscape architecture, construction, construction technology, or construction management.

Or, you may have one year of experience as described above and a valid license as a professional engineer, registered architect, or registered landscape architect issued by a board of examining engineers, architects, or landscape architects.

Matriculation in an undergraduate college degree program may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits for one year of satisfactory full-time experience up to a maximum of three years of experience.
