Overview

This role is situated within the Veterans Health Administration, overseeing a critical section of the Facilities Management Service Line. The individual in this position will act as a Supervisor in the Preventive Maintenance (PM) department, ensuring the effective management of operations and repair of essential building service equipment. The Supervisor will also oversee the chilled water system and its associated machinery.

Key Responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:
  • Manage and process necessary documentation to facilitate and complete work within the department.
  • Provide guidance and direction on work procedures, methodologies, and timelines for various trades including Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, A/C Equipment Operations, and Electronic Industrial Controls.
  • Assess plans, allocate tasks, and coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly work schedules for the team.
  • Identify scheduled project work and develop long-term plans.
  • Implement and manage various programs related to safety, cost efficiency, incentive awards, and quality assurance, adhering to policies established by management.
  • Assist the Facilities Management Service Line Executive and other senior management in operational matters.
  • Ensure optimal and economical utilization of resources necessary for the effective functioning of the PM department.
  • Conduct safety inspections and quality assurance evaluations of all equipment and processes under supervision, documenting the findings.
  • Issue work orders for tasks that cannot be addressed by the PM section.
  • Prepare and review required reports, submitting them to the Facilities Management Service Line office.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of the department.
  • Address any safety hazards immediately or report those requiring further action to the supervisor with recommendations for resolution.
  • Review material requests from staff for accuracy and necessity to avoid excess inventory.
  • Draft specifications for equipment replacements.
  • Anticipate short-term utility variations and adjust operations accordingly.
Work Schedule: Standard hours are Sunday to Thursday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, subject to change based on operational needs.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate relevant training or experience that indicates the ability to perform the duties of this position. The evaluation will be based on the qualifications outlined in the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Physical Requirements

Must maintain physical and mental alertness. The role involves lifting, carrying, and making adjustments or repairs, which may require bending, kneeling, or reaching in confined spaces. The incumbent may need to work from heights and must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when necessary.
