Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Duke University Hospital. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Administer oxygen and aerosolized medication as prescribed by physicians
- Initiate and manage all modes of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation
- Manage artificial airways and perform nasotracheal and artificial airway suctioning
- Perform CPR and bag-mask ventilation, as well as pulse oximetry monitoring and arterial blood gas punctures
- Participate in diagnostic cardiopulmonary procedures and pulmonary function studies
- Transport patients within the hospital and ensure correct set-up, safety, and function of all equipment and supplies
- Adhere to all infectious disease standards and recognize life-threatening situations, initiating appropriate responses
- Understand pharmacological indications, dosages, and response to adverse drug reactions, making patient care assessments according to accepted protocols
- Provide education to patients, families, physicians, nursing, and other members of the healthcare team, monitoring response to all therapy and documenting in the patient medical record
- Communicate all pertinent clinical information and participate in quality improvement activities
- Completion of a 2-year CoARC-approved respiratory care program (Associates Degree or equivalent)
- Minimum requirement of one year experience as a Respiratory Therapist; two years or more of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist preferred
- North Carolina State Licensure or North Carolina State Provisional License, Certification by the National Association for Respiratory Care (NBRC) if graduate, and any other applicable certifications
