Position Title: 1st Processing General Labor

Work Hours: 9:45 AM to 6:30 PM

Position Overview:

The role involves performing various tasks related to recently processed turkeys, ensuring efficient operations within the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Inspect turkeys as they progress along the processing line, checking for any defects such as bruises, scabs, or broken bones.
  2. Trim and prepare birds as necessary, removing any undesirable parts while ensuring a quality product.
  3. Dispose of condemned parts appropriately, either in designated containers or on the designated conveyor belt.
  4. Manage salvageable parts by placing them on the appropriate conveyor belt.
  5. Hang back birds or parts on the designated racks as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Understanding of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, including eye protection, hearing protection, and cut-resistant gloves. Training in the use of knife sharpeners will be provided.

Physical Demands:

The position requires:

  • Prolonged standing (up to 8 hours or more).
  • Manual dexterity for handling knives and scissors.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and hang turkeys as needed.

Inspecting birds for defects and ensuring proper trimming without over-processing is essential. Sanitization of tools, particularly knives, is mandatory, with specific temperature guidelines for sanitizing.

Work Environment:

Employees may encounter:

  • Damp and warm conditions.
  • Loud machinery and noisy environments.
  • Dusty conditions and exposure to chemicals or strong odors.
