Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Telecommunications Engineer to join our team at the Arizona Department of Public Safety. As a Telecommunications Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining telecommunications systems and networks to support the department's operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Implementation: Design and implement telecommunications systems and networks to meet the department's needs, including circuitry and telecommunications systems.
  • Problem Solving: Analyze telecommunications problems and needs, and determine appropriate configurations of telecommunications hardware and software.
  • Research and Development: Research, gather, and compile relevant technical information, and evaluate new products and services from vendors.
  • Communication: Attend meetings, conferences, task forces, committees, events, etc., and remain current on job-specific and department topics.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Research federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, policies, and procedures, and develop long- and short-term plans for updating equipment, adding capabilities, enhancing existing systems, and providing improved telecommunications statewide.
Requirements
  • Education: Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to extensive (5+ years) journey-level experience related to land mobile radio Frequency Modulation (FM) two-way radio, microwave, fiber optic, and electronic communications systems (FCC Part 90, Part 101, or military equivalent).
  • Certifications: Must have technical certification, such as FCC General Class License, PCIA or APCO Technical Certificate, CET Journeyman Certificate with a Communications endorsement, or equivalent.
  • Skills: Knowledge of radio propagation, troubleshooting techniques for electronic equipment and systems, and the theories, principles, practices, methods, and techniques used in electronics engineering and telecommunications engineering.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to work in an office setting, travel by conventional vehicles, 4-wheel drive trucks, snow-traversing vehicles, and, where appropriate, ride in fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft, in all forms of weather and conditions.
Working Conditions

The Telecommunications Engineer will work in an office setting, with occasional travel to various locations throughout the state. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent deadlines and changing priorities.
