Lead Protection and Control Engineer

This role offers a unique opportunity to apply your knowledge of protective relaying and controls systems for distribution and high voltage substations. As a Lead Protection & Control Engineer, you will be responsible for reviewing the work of others, including protection and control schematics and wiring drawings for substation modifications and upgrades.
You will work on challenging assignments that involve investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving substation protection and control issues. Your expertise will be essential in reviewing protective relaying philosophies, including selection of relay, control, and communications equipment, SCADA and telecommunication concepts and configurations, and I/O assignments and connection diagrams.
As a mentor, you will provide guidance to less experienced engineers and develop your career through peer-learning and knowledge sharing. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with three days a week in the office and two days of remote work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review protection and control schematics and wiring drawings for substation modifications and upgrades
- Investigate, trouble-shoot, and solve substation protection and control issues
- Review protective relaying philosophies, including selection of relay, control, and communications equipment
- Provide guidance to less experienced engineers
- Develop your career through peer-learning and knowledge sharing
Requirements:
- BSEE with a power systems or controls emphasis from an ABET-accredited engineering program
- 10 or more years of experience with a focus on protection / control / telecommunications for high voltage substations
- Experience with design codes and standards, such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Valued but not required skills and experience:
- Prior experience with in-line, bus and equipment protection, breaker, transformer and similar equipment control, RTU and SCADA systems, telemetering and communications
- AutoCAD or MicroStation experience
- Construction and start-up experience
- Testing or commissioning experience
- PE license
