Position Overview:
The Global Manufacturing Engineering Group at Insulet is a hub of skilled professionals, advanced technologies, and innovative solutions that ensure the quality and efficiency of our unique drug delivery devices. The Senior Controls Engineer plays a crucial role by providing engineering expertise and technical resources to enhance the contributions of the Global Manufacturing Engineering Group towards the overall performance of the company.
This role involves leading the development of Hardware/Software Controls for assembly, packaging, and high-speed applications. The ideal candidate will be adept at crafting innovative solutions tailored to each project. Responsibilities include overseeing the installation and initiation of new equipment, enhancing existing systems, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities are essential, along with a self-motivated attitude and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
The Acton site serves as a global headquarters and product development center, offering a comprehensive range of career advancement and experience-building opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and enhance electro-mechanical systems and mechatronic devices, developing automated systems and software for control.
  • Install and refine control systems, servo drives, motors, HMIs, and PLC programs on high-speed assembly and processing equipment.
  • Collaborate on and review wiring diagrams and logic for new equipment and upgrades.
  • Engage in discussions regarding algorithmic control and mechanical design, including code reviews.
  • Create tools for algorithm development, testing, and image quality validation.
  • Develop advanced computer vision algorithms focusing on real-time object recognition and tracking.
  • Configure vision systems, including PCs, cameras, and motion control interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot and enhance imaging programs for assembly and processing machinery.
  • Utilize hands-on troubleshooting skills to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  • Analyze data patterns for specifications and productivity improvements using data science tools.
  • Conduct statistical analysis and predictive modeling, generating automated reports.
  • Support data engineering in documentation and implementation of analytics tools.
  • Provide technical support for continuous improvement and six sigma projects related to plant operations.
  • Plan tasks independently while adapting to a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Over 5 years of hands-on experience with complex assembly and manufacturing equipment, including design and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Rockwell Automation, Keyence or Cognex vision software, and ABB Robotics.
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
  • Extensive experience in engineering and developing manufacturing equipment for high-volume, high-speed assembly operations.
  • Strong programming skills in Rockwell Automation RSLogix5000 and FTView ME and SE.
  • Knowledge of VFD and Servo drives, with a preference for AB Powerflex and Kinetix.
  • Experience with B&R controls software and hardware is advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of automation controls, high-speed component feeding, and material handling.
  • Familiarity with visual computing tasks and related data processing.
  • Proficiency in robot system design and electrical schematics.
  • Hands-on experience in setting up robot applications, including configuration and programming.
  • Intermediate to advanced SQL skills for managing large datasets.
  • Experience in statistical analysis and exposure to machine learning algorithms is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools and programming languages.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining focus on priorities.
  • Excellent communication and report writing abilities.

Physical Requirements:
