Position Summary
We are seeking a Project Manager within the Facility Operations Division of the General Services Department.

This role will involve applying project management expertise to the planning, design, and construction of city-owned facilities and significant renovation initiatives.

The Project Manager will oversee a diverse range of projects related to city-owned properties, including planning studies, renovations, repairs, and maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage architectural and engineering contracts along with construction projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and scope (including design specifications).
  • Ensure alignment of projects with the city's Strategic Energy Action Plan and Sustainable Facilities Policy, as applicable.
  • Act as the primary contact for Facility Construction projects within Facilities Operations.
  • Lead all assigned projects, managing their administrative aspects effectively.
  • Negotiate and monitor budgets and expenditures, updating project schedules and tracking progress against established timelines.
  • Provide guidance and direction to consultants, documenting decisions made throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings, recording actions and decisions made.
  • Review and process pay applications, contract amendments, change orders, and claims.
  • Maintain and update project schedules and reporting documents as necessary.
  • Communicate project progress and issues to supervisors regularly.
  • Daily presence at the facility shop is required; remote work is not an option.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in project management tasks, including proactive management of schedules and budgets, and the ability to develop both technical and non-technical reports. Candidates should be able to comprehend, assess, and apply fundamental engineering, construction, and maintenance principles to achieve project objectives.

Essential skills include:

  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Leadership capabilities to guide project teams and manage planning/design staff.
  • Collaborative skills to work effectively with city staff, consultants, contractors, and the public.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Primavera.

Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, or a related field is required. A minimum of three years of progressive engineering project management experience in building design, construction, and maintenance is preferred. Knowledge of building MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems is also advantageous.

Salary
$96,400 - $106,545, commensurate with experience.
