Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled RN Behavioral Health Nurse to join our team at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford, CT. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality nursing care to emotionally disturbed and/or mentally ill patients in our 50-bed Behavioral Health Hospital Unit.
Responsibilities:
- Assume professional responsibility and accountability for a group of residents/patients, including medication/treatment administration, teaching, and supervision of nursing staff.
- Conduct intake assessments, perform ongoing and systematic assessments, and develop comprehensive goal-directed interdisciplinary plans.
- Administer and note reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications, and arrange further medical attention when necessary.
- Assist patients in understanding the nature of emotional disturbances and accepting the need for treatment, and maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and patients.
- Test for vital signs of pain and ensure treatments of pain, document patient information on medical charts, and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Supervise the care provided by CNAs & LPNs, ensuring adherence to the plan of care, resident profile, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in educational programs, inservices, meetings, and workshops to enhance professional skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
- Minimum one year clinical experience, preferably in an acute and/or Behavioral Health capacity.
- Current RN or LPN license in the State of Connecticut, in good standing.
Key Competencies:
- Professional nursing principles, procedures, and techniques used in the care and treatment of psychiatric patients.
- Social, psychological, and physical factors of mental and emotional disorders.
- Medications, including psychotropic drugs, and effects on psychiatric patients.
- State of Connecticut laws and regulations for the nursing profession.
Working Conditions:
This is a day shift position, 24 hours/week, with every other weekend. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and provide high-quality care to patients with complex needs.
