Healthcare Support Specialist

Position Summary: The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in facilitating patient care within our Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), Telepsychiatry, and Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) programs. This position involves coordinating patient appointments and ensuring that all necessary authorizations and eligibility details are gathered for those referred to our behavioral health services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and communicate patient referrals and authorizations to healthcare providers.
- Schedule appointments and relay relevant information to patients and their families.
- Conduct follow-ups with patients and providers to confirm attendance at scheduled appointments.
- Document consults and progress notes from various medical professionals in patient records.
- Perform pre-intake assessments for MAT to evaluate patient suitability for the program.
- Record attendance for MAT groups, random drug screenings, and medication counts.
- Conduct SDoH assessments and manage referrals, tracking outcomes in patient records.
- Adhere to Telepsychiatry protocols and coordinate care with telepsychiatry providers.
- Ensure all actions are documented in compliance with clinic and health plan regulations.
- Provide patients with detailed information regarding the referral process, including cost considerations.
- Communicate effectively with patients through various channels.
- Act as a liaison among patients, healthcare providers, and community resources.
- Participate in required meetings and training sessions.
- Verify insurance eligibility and assist with treatment authorizations.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives.
- Document all care coordination and patient education activities in medical records.
- Process incident reports following established guidelines.
- Prioritize tasks based on urgency and follow-up needs.
- Provide timely reports to supervisors and site staff as necessary.
- Respond compassionately to the needs of patients and colleagues.
- Maintain professional relationships with all staff and clients.
- Collaborate to achieve departmental goals.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is mandatory.
- Preferred: One year of experience as a certified medical assistant.
- Current BLS certification is required upon hire.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) candidates are preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of medical procedures and terminology.
- Experience with electronic health records is preferred.
- Intermediate skills in computer usage and data entry.
- Ability to anticipate the needs of patients and providers.

Compensation: $32.55 per hour, based on experience.
