Position Overview:

The Educational Support Specialist will report to the Behavior Team and the Paraprofessional Coordinator, playing a crucial role in delivering classroom assistance for trauma-informed curriculum activities that enhance the educational growth of each student.

This position involves working 188 days during the academic year, with breaks during the summer, holidays, and spring.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the lead educator with classroom management tasks.
  • Supervise students during transitions throughout the school day.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and programs.
  • Recognize and address the unique needs of children.
  • Foster an environment that embodies our mission.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom atmosphere.
  • Support a holistic approach to wellness, including nutrition, health, safety, and mental well-being.
  • Build relationships that encourage active student participation in learning.
  • Attend mandatory staff and district meetings.
  • Engage in required professional development activities.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of 60 college credit hours or successful completion of the Praxis paraprofessional exam (minimum score of 457).
  • Physical capability to utilize approved techniques for managing challenging behaviors.
  • Experience with Conscious Discipline and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) is advantageous.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to meet the diverse needs of traumatized children.

Working Conditions:

The role requires physical stamina and agility to engage with active children. Responsibilities may include supervising during lunch, recess, and field trips. The ability to lift at least 50 pounds is necessary. Candidates must pass all background checks and drug screenings as required. Participation in mandatory training and meetings is essential, along with maintaining professional boundaries and completing documentation in a timely manner.
