POSITION TITLE: Secondary Mathematics Educator

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field.
  • Certification (or eligibility for certification) by the State of Alabama in the appropriate subject area.
  • Must fulfill background clearance requirements as mandated by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:

  • Salary and benefits will be provided in accordance with the system's approved compensation plan.
  • Length of the work year and hours of employment will be determined by the system.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand and assist in upholding and enforcing school regulations, administrative policies, and Board of Education guidelines.
  • Engage in the effective operation of the school and school system, which includes participation in meetings, conferences, and committee responsibilities.
  • Commit to no other employment that interferes with the effective performance of teaching duties.
  • Adhere to the standards established for teachers' professional and personal conduct as outlined in the Code of Ethics.
  • Follow the approved curriculum and instructional materials as mandated by the State Board of Education and the local Board of Education.
  • Foster student attitudes that promote citizenship, self-discipline, morality, and patriotism through teaching and school activities.
  • Arrive for duty at least fifteen minutes before the school day begins and remain at least fifteen minutes after the school day ends.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
  • Create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning, tailored to the interests and maturity of the students.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate discipline within the classroom and assist in the overall school environment.
  • Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request from the principal.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and board policy.
  • Regularly evaluate student progress in accordance with established procedures.
  • Seek assistance from specialists as necessary and make appropriate referrals.
  • Take necessary precautions to ensure student safety and safeguard all educational materials and facilities.
  • Be available to students and parents for educational purposes outside of instructional hours, with mutually agreed-upon procedures for conferences.
  • Collaborate with other staff members in planning school activities and instructional objectives.
  • Assist in the selection of instructional materials and resources.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities as agreed upon by faculty and administration.
  • Attend and actively participate in faculty meetings.
  • Maintain a professional and cooperative relationship with parents and the community.
  • Promote positive public relations for the school and the education system.
  • Continuously improve professional competence.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal to ensure the safe and effective operation of the school.
  • Assume additional reasonable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of child development and characteristics of students in the assigned age group.
  • Familiarity with the prescribed curriculum.
  • Awareness of current educational research.
  • Basic knowledge of current technology.
  • Understanding of learning styles and proficiency in employing varied teaching methods.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness.
  • Competence in assessing student achievement and analyzing test results to prescribe improvement actions.
  • Capability to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers, administrators, and others.
  • Physical and emotional capacity to perform required duties in a dynamic work environment.

EVALUATION: Performance in this role will be assessed in accordance with the Board's evaluation policy.
