This is a hybrid position, requiring regular engagement both in a corporate office and remotely.

First Citizens Bank & Trust Company offers extensive financing and banking solutions tailored for middle market healthcare enterprises throughout the United States. By employing a client-centric and industry-focused approach, our Healthcare Finance division customizes its offerings to assist clients in securing growth capital.

The Healthcare Underwriter II or III plays a pivotal role in supporting the Healthcare team at an advanced level through comprehensive underwriting, analysis, and structuring recommendations for healthcare portfolios.

Key responsibilities include identifying, collecting, and analyzing financial data to evaluate borrower risk ratings and determine suitable loan structuring. The Underwriter will assess and communicate risks associated with both new and existing healthcare accounts.

Responsibilities

The Underwriter will collaborate with the Healthcare Real Estate Medical Office Building (MOB) underwriting team, focusing on:

  • Analyzing and underwriting new real estate transactions.
  • Preparing property-level assessments, preliminary evaluations, and final credit approvals for financing opportunities.
  • Engaging in all transaction stages, including market research, due diligence, credit presentations, structuring, and legal documentation.
  • Assisting with special projects, audits, and various ad hoc tasks.
  • Interacting with Originators and Credit Management, supporting Senior Underwriters, Portfolio Management, Operations, and Closing teams, while collaborating with colleagues.
QualificationsUnderwriter II

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 1 year of experience in Commercial Lending or Credit Analysis, including financial statement analysis and preparation of projections, or a High School Diploma/GED with 3 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Real Estate, Finance, or Accounting.

Experience:

  • Finance and Banking background.
  • Completion of a formal credit training program is preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience in Commercial Real Estate finance, focusing on credit underwriting; experience with MOBs and Healthcare Real Estate is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, written, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Argus software is a plus.
  • Experience in underwriting construction loans is beneficial.
  • Experience in portfolio management or underwriting other healthcare sectors, such as Inpatient Rehabilitation and Senior Housing, is a plus.
Underwriter III

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of experience in Commercial Lending or Credit Analysis, or a High School Diploma/GED with 6 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Real Estate, Finance, or Accounting.

Experience:

  • Finance and Banking background.
  • Completion of a formal credit training program is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in Commercial Real Estate finance, focusing on credit underwriting; experience with MOBs and Healthcare Real Estate is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, written, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Argus software is a plus.
  • Experience in underwriting construction loans is beneficial.
  • Experience in portfolio management or underwriting other healthcare sectors, such as Inpatient Rehabilitation and Senior Housing, is a plus.

Compensation: The base salary for the Underwriter II position typically ranges from $95,000 to $100,000, while the Underwriter III position generally ranges from $100,000 to $120,000. Actual starting salaries will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other lawful factors.
