Position Title: Research Fellow in Plastic Surgery Innovations

Overview
The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Commonwealth of Virginia is expanding its research initiatives centered on skin biology, addressing conditions such as keloids and hypertrophic scars, understanding burn physiology, and promoting the regeneration of skin and soft tissues.

We are seeking a dedicated research fellow to become an integral part of our team. The selected individual will play a pivotal role in advancing ongoing research projects within the realm of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Responsibilities will include conducting laboratory experiments, employing cellular models, performing sample sequencing, and evaluating therapeutic agents. The role also encompasses executing animal studies to further basic science and therapeutic advancements for clinical applications.

Key responsibilities include collaboration with faculty in plastic surgery, project formulation, obtaining necessary approvals, executing experiments, participating in weekly discussions, and managing laboratory operations. The candidate will also be expected to draft grant applications, fostering independent research capabilities and interdisciplinary partnerships. This position offers an opportunity for the fellow to develop into an independent researcher capable of making significant contributions to the field.

Essential Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Experience with animal studies, cellular models, sample analysis, sequencing, and muscle physiology
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and biostatistical analysis
  • Strong project management skills and excellent communication abilities
  • Experience in promoting diverse and inclusive environments

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in biomedical engineering and/or medical device development is a plus
