Key Responsibilities:
The Laboratory Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily functions of a division within Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This position entails:
- Leading daily operations by providing guidance in work assignments, orientation, coaching, and training of staff.
- Contributing to staff performance evaluations, competency assessments, and participating in hiring and disciplinary processes.
- Collaborating with senior staff to ensure division readiness for accreditation and compliance.
- Engaging with ancillary departments to resolve issues and serving on committees such as Quality Assurance, Safety, and Laboratory Information Systems as required.
- Facilitating educational experiences for laboratory interns and residents assigned to the division.
- Assisting in the development of business and operational strategies, evaluating and implementing new procedures and instruments, and revising technical documentation.
- Managing special projects or assignments as designated.
- Conducting routine and complex laboratory tests or procedures in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Implementing quality assurance SOPs to ensure the proper functioning of instruments and analytical processes, while maintaining control data and instrument maintenance records.
- Reviewing results for reliability based on quality control measures and taking corrective actions as necessary.
- Identifying issues in test methodologies, quality control, and instrument functionality, and initiating problem-solving activities.
Educational Background:
- Bachelor's degree with ASCP Board of Registry specialist certification in a relevant specialty, or equivalent education and experience.
- A Master's degree in biological sciences, chemistry, or medical technology is preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant clinical experience, including at least three (3) years in a specialized area.
- Experience in supervision and education, along with professional involvement such as committee memberships and conference presentations, is desirable.
