Job Summary

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Medical Assistant II to join our team at the Iowa River Landing Family Medicine Clinic. As a Medical Assistant II, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the clinical team in an ambulatory setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the smooth flow of patients through the clinic, interacting with patients, families, and staff.
  • Assist with physical examinations, patient history, medication records, allergies, and immunizations.
  • Manage internal and external medical records to ensure accurate and complete data for patient appointments.
  • Administer routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications under the supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests, such as urinalysis and blood work, and assist with electrocardiograms and x-ray procedures as needed.
  • Identify vaccination needs for specific patient populations.
  • Perform related clerical tasks, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing information to other departments.
  • Assist with obtaining insurance prior authorizations.
Requirements
  • Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program.
  • Completion of a healthcare profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program, including pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology, and medication administration.
