Job Title: Medical Assistant II

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant II to join our team at the University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing. As a Medical Assistant II, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our clinical team.

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, RN, or nurse manager, you will function as a member of the patient care team. Your responsibilities will include performing technical, patient care, and related clerical functions in the urgent care setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support our Organ Transplant Center patients by facilitating the smooth flow of patients through the clinic.
  • Assist in clinic with physical examinations, patient history, medication records, allergies, and immunizations.
  • Manage internal and external medical records to ensure accurate and complete data is available for patient appointments.
  • Administer routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications not requiring a high level of skill or nursing judgment.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests, such as urinalysis and blood work, and electrocardiograms as needed.
  • Identify vaccination needs for specific patient populations.
  • Perform related clerical tasks, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing information to other departments.
  • Assist in obtaining insurance prior authorizations.
Requirements:
  • Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program.
  • Completion of a healthcare profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program.
