Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant II to join our team at the University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing. As a Medical Assistant II, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our Urology Clinic.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the physical examination of patients and related treatments, including patient history, medication records, allergies, and internal and external medical records.
  • Administer routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications not requiring a high level of skill or nursing judgment.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests such as urinalysis and blood work, electrocardiograms, and x-ray work as needed.
  • Identify vaccination needs and provide related clerical tasks, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing information to other departments.
  • Assist in obtaining insurance prior authorizations and provide hands-on patient care, minimal phone triage, and no scribing.
Requirements
  • Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program.
  • Completion of a healthcare profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program, including pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology, and medication administration.
