At Ports America, the Operations Support Manager for Intermodal Maintenance & Repair (M&R) will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance in the maintenance and repair of equipment. This role is essential in ensuring optimal productivity and supervision within the repair operations while delivering exceptional customer service to terminal clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the activities of mechanics involved in the maintenance and repair of containers, chassis, and refrigerated units. Collaborate with the M&R management team to establish operational goals and objectives. Lead the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly performance metrics and other operational and financial reports. Ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective management of operations while achieving financial and operational targets. Analyze performance data and trends to pinpoint areas needing improvement. Facilitate effective communication within the workgroup to ensure smooth operational activities. Provide reliable service to clients, ensuring timely turnaround of damaged equipment. Monitor productivity levels to maintain operational efficiency; prepare weekly labor production reports for mechanics and non-productive labor. Uphold safety, health, and environmental standards throughout the operations. Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure attendance at both M&R and operational meetings. Investigate all accidents and injuries thoroughly, discussing findings with the management team. Ensure M&R staff are well-versed in company policies, labor laws, and collective bargaining agreements. Maintain accurate inventory records of all equipment and submit necessary reports to meet customer requirements. Ensure timely and accurate completion of all administrative procedures and reports. Participate in customer audits conducted at the operational level. Ensure daily productivity forms are collected from mechanics at the end of each shift, reviewing them for accuracy. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED. 4+ years of experience in Intermodal M&R Equipment within the logistics/transportation sector in a managerial role, with significant experience in labor relations. Familiarity with budget preparation and financial applications, along with a basic understanding of accounting, statistics, problem-solving, and business applications.Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Maritime, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field. Knowledge of terminal and stevedore operations. Comprehensive understanding of M&R Equipment repair standards required by clients. Experience managing M&R operations, including technical mechanical expertise and labor management. Strong understanding of managerial and leadership principles, with the ability to influence team members and lead a technically skilled department. In-depth knowledge of union contracts. Thorough understanding of safety and accident prevention measures. Proven ability to demonstrate strong leadership and influencing capabilities. Ability to exercise sound business judgment to set direction and establish priorities. Excellent managerial skills, including planning, organizing, and directing work.Physical Working Attributes:
Frequent walking, standing, and bending, with occasional sitting. Work in a terminal or yard environment. Adaptability to changing weather conditions. Ability to work in an environment with moving machinery and equipment. Awareness of potential hazards in environments with fast-moving heavy equipment.NOTE: This job description is not exhaustive.
