At Ports America, the Operations Support Manager - Intermodal Maintenance & Repair (M&R) will be responsible for leading and guiding the Maintenance & Repair processes for equipment. This role is pivotal in ensuring optimal productivity and oversight in the repair operations while delivering exceptional customer service to the lines utilizing the terminal.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the activities of mechanics involved in the Maintenance & Repair of Containers, Chassis, and Refrigerated Containers. Collaborate with the M&R Manager to establish operational goals and objectives. Direct the compilation of daily, weekly, and monthly productivity statistics and other operational and financial reports. Ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective management of operations while achieving financial and operational targets. Analyze performance metrics and trends to pinpoint areas needing enhancement. Facilitate effective communication within the workgroup to ensure smooth operational flow. Deliver reliable service to clients, ensuring timely turnaround of older damages. Monitor productivity levels to maintain operational efficiency; provide a weekly detailed recap of labor production for all mechanics and non-productive labor. Uphold safety, health, and environmental standards throughout the operation. Conduct daily safety meetings at both M&R Operations and the PA Operations meetings. Investigate all accidents/injuries thoroughly and review findings with the management team. Ensure M&R staff are well-versed in company policies, labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and consistent application procedures. Maintain an accurate inventory of all equipment and submit necessary reports to meet customer requirements. Guarantee that all administrative tasks and reports are completed accurately and submitted punctually to relevant parties. Participate in customer audits conducted at the site level. Ensure all management-required daily productivity forms are collected from mechanics at the end of each shift, reviewing them for accuracy. Complete additional duties and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED. 4+ years of experience in Intermodal M&R Equipment within the logistics/transportation sector in a managerial role, with substantial labor relations experience. Proficient understanding of budget preparation and financial applications, including basic accounting, statistics, problem-solving, goal-setting, and business applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Maritime, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field. Knowledge of terminal and stevedore operations. Comprehensive understanding of M&R Equipment repair criteria as required by each customer. Experience managing M&R operations, including technical mechanical expertise and labor management. Familiarity with managerial and leadership principles, with the ability to influence other management team members and lead a technically skilled department. In-depth knowledge of union contracts. Strong understanding of safety and accident prevention protocols. Proven ability to demonstrate effective leadership and influencing skills. Capacity to exercise sound business judgment to set direction and establish priorities. Excellent managerial skills, including planning, organizing, and directing work.

Physical Working Attributes:

Frequent walking, standing, and bending, with occasional sitting. Work in a terminal/yard environment. Adaptability to changing weather conditions. Exposure to an environment with moving objects and machinery. Awareness of potential hazards in environments with fast-moving heavy equipment.
