Position Overview: The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a Senior Structural and Bridge Engineering Technician to engage in the drafting, design, detailing, and evaluation of bridge and structural plans for a variety of projects.

  • Maintain project documentation and communication, and prepare necessary contract materials.
  • Respond to inquiries and offer support in relevant program areas.
  • Conduct design and analysis for bridges and structures in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Compile reports and maintain project records, ensuring fieldwork compliance.
  • Review structural plans and shop drawings, and calculate quantities and cost estimates.
  • Document and complete essential data, providing technical support and training.
  • Efficiently manage project activities while liaising with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Apply engineering principles across program areas and develop structural components.
  • Mentor and guide other technicians, executing complex calculations as needed.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficient in providing training and mentorship.
  • Strong understanding of algebra, geometry, and other technical disciplines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment and follow instructions diligently.
  • Familiarity with engineering design methodologies, drafting, and detailing practices.
  • Capacity to prioritize tasks and communicate effectively.
  • Competence in utilizing computers and relevant engineering software.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proficient in using computers and engineering applications, with a solid grasp of technical subjects.
  • Ability to coordinate with teams and adhere to design standards.
  • Knowledgeable in drafting, structural design, and mathematics.

Additional Considerations:

  • Relevant experience or education in applicable fields is preferred.
  • Experience in drafting, design, and plan preparation is advantageous.
