About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Principal System Safety Engineer to join our Land & Air Defense Systems (LADS) System Safety team in Tewksbury, MA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics to assess fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance.
  • Work with system test and tactical operation and maintenance procedures to ensure proper administrative system safety controls are in place.
  • Collaborate with integrated product teams and lines to eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
  • Collaborate with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform System Safety Program or Design analyses.
  • Work with a large system safety program or multiple mid-sized safety programs, including monitoring program technical execution, interfacing with stakeholders, and preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval.
  • Brief safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process.
  • Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.
  • Prepare internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program.
  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design.
Requirements
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) and minimum 8 years of relevant Systems Engineering or Safety Engineering experience.
  • Experience with System Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent Safety Engineering.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in command and control systems and/or weapon combat systems.
  • Experience with DoD System Safety Programs.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development.
  • Master's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
