Job Title: Principal Engineer

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) is seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our team in St. Petersburg, FL. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing complex systems and products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques to design, analyze, test, maintain, repair, or improve products, components, or assemblies
  • Analyze, develop, and evaluate systems to ensure they meet the required specifications and standards
  • Improve and maintain current systems or create new projects to meet the evolving needs of our customers
  • Design and draft blueprints, visit systems in the field, and manage projects to ensure timely completion and quality
  • Apply engineering techniques and analyses within the scope of the assignment to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
Requirements:
  • Associate's Degree in General Engineering or specialized Engineering
  • 8-10 years of experience in a related field
  • Strong computer skills, administrative data control, scheduling, and team interface
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software, Spreadsheet software, Internet software, Project Management software, and Manufacturing software
  • Strong written, digital, and verbal communication skills in both an individual and team environment
  • Ability to possess strong planning, execution, and multitasking skills and have demonstrated ability to reprioritize on the fly
  • Ability to manage quickly changing priorities while meeting deadlines
  • Works within the highest level of integrity, ethics, and safety
  • Operates under minimal direction and exercises moderate to independent judgment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Technology or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience within the defense industry
  • Experience in energetic materials field
  • Strong engineering skills and understanding of the design and composition of most existing products and engineering/business processes and principles
  • Experience in Configuration Management including Windchill, revision control, and change notice process flows
  • Certification in Configuration and Data Management
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential
  • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery
Other Requirements:
  • Proficiency with MS Office 365 tools
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of time, with domestic travel possible (1 to 3 trips per year)
  • Proficiency in 3-Dimensional Modeling and Drawing in Creo
  • Proficiency as Windchill Administrator
