Job Summary

Palmer Bus Financial Management (Mankato) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Safety to oversee and implement safety programs and procedures for our organization. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in promoting a culture of safety throughout our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Safety Policies: Create and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all federal, state, and local safety regulations and standards are met and maintained.
  • Conduct Safety Inspections: Conduct regular safety inspections of vehicles, facilities, and equipment to identify and address any potential hazards or safety issues.
  • Investigate and Report Safety Incidents: Investigate and report all safety incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement effective solutions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Develop and Deliver Safety Training: Develop and deliver safety-related training programs for employees, including driver training, emergency response procedures, safe loading and unloading practices, and risk assessment.
  • Maintain Safety Records: Maintain accurate records of all claims, incidents, safety inspections, job hazard assessments, and training activities.
  • Stay Up-to-Date with Industry Best Practices: Stay up to date with industry best practices and emerging safety trends and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Management and Staff: Collaborate with management and staff to promote a culture of safety and ensure that safety is a top priority throughout the organization.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety: Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Transportation Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 Years of Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety management role, preferably in the transportation industry.
  • Strong Leadership Skills: Possesses strong leadership skills to effectively guide and inspire the team towards a culture of safety.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and educate employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong Analytical and Critical Thinking Skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify and address safety hazards and risks.
  • Strong Crisis Management Skills: Possesses strong crisis management skills and ability to coordinate appropriate responses.
  • Detail-Oriented with Strong Organizational Skills: Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience Working with Insurance Agents: Has experience working closely with insurance agents in organizing and maintaining claims.
  • Ability to Work Independently: Has the ability to work independently in order to maintain accurate and current records in accordance with guidelines.
  • Strong Understanding of Risk Management Principles: Has a strong understanding of risk management principles and is able to develop strategies to mitigate potential risks.
  • Familiarity with Safety-Related Technologies: Familiarity with safety-related technologies, telematics systems, and driver monitoring tools.
  • Mindset of Continuous Improvement: Has a mindset of continuous improvement and a passion for safety.
