POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the guidance of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatic Safety Supervisor is tasked with overseeing the aquatic facilities to ensure a secure environment, assist swimmers, and effectively manage emergencies. The role is pivotal in fostering a safe, enjoyable, and welcoming atmosphere that prioritizes member safety and satisfaction, adhering to the YMCA's established policies and protocols. The supervisor will manage various activities, including open swim sessions, water fitness classes, swim instruction, and lifeguarding at outdoor locations.

A range of shifts is available, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. To fulfill outdoor responsibilities, it is necessary to also work some indoor hours at the main YMCA facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Maintain vigilant observation of the aquatic area, familiarize with all emergency protocols, and respond promptly to any emergencies.
  2. Administer first aid as required and complete the necessary incident reports.
  3. Understand and consistently apply safety regulations, policies, and guidelines pertinent to the aquatic facilities.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to perform demanding physical tasks essential for water rescues in line with lifeguard training standards.
  5. Conduct daily inspections of the pool area to ensure the availability of rescue equipment and identify any hazardous conditions, reporting them to the supervisor or maintenance team immediately.
  6. Ensure the cleanliness of the aquatic facility, including organizing equipment and performing daily cleaning duties.
  7. Assist in preparing the pool for scheduled programs, ensuring they commence and conclude punctually, which may involve tasks such as adjusting lane lines or managing accessibility features.
  8. Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director.
REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Minimum age of 15.
  2. Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED for the Professional Rescuer or YMCA lifeguard certification.
  3. Ability to maintain focus for extended periods.
  4. Skill in identifying swimmers who may require assistance.
  5. Proven ability to recognize and address unsafe or hazardous situations.
  6. Effective communication skills with individuals of all ages and swimming abilities.
  7. Capability to engage with diverse groups of individuals.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ability to successfully complete the lifeguard water assessment.
  2. Must remain alert without lapses in consciousness in warm environments.
  3. Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
  4. Capability to hear sounds and distress signals.
  5. Maintain clear vision to observe all areas of the pool.
  6. Execute all necessary rescues and survival techniques.
  7. Perform physically demanding tasks required for water rescues, including rapid swimming and supporting the weight of an adult.
  8. Communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distances in various situations.
